Lesson Overview

29.11 – What Happens in the Brain During Rage: When rage takes over, your brain’s alarm system floods your body with stress hormones, cutting off access to logic and patience. The amygdala, which handles danger signals, goes into overdrive, while the prefrontal cortex—the part that makes decisions—shuts down. This is why people say things they don’t mean or act before thinking. Your heartbeat speeds up, muscles tighten, and blood rushes to prepare for fight or flight. Understanding this process doesn’t excuse outbursts, but it helps explain why they feel unstoppable in the moment. The brain can be trained to cool faster with deep breathing, grounding, and slowing your thoughts before reacting. When you practice calm techniques regularly, your nervous system learns to recover faster. Rage might feel powerful, but real power is being able to keep your mind online when emotions try to take the wheel.
