17.34 – What If the School Counselor Doesn’t Help?: Not every counselor will meet your expectations, and that can feel discouraging. If your first conversation doesn’t bring relief, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it means you need a new approach. Ask for another counselor or a teacher who can serve as a bridge to better support. You can also contact the district office for mental health resources or speak with your parent or guardian about external counseling. Keep your focus on solutions rather than frustration. Advocating for yourself respectfully gets attention faster than anger. Remember, you’re entitled to support, not silence. It’s okay to try multiple sources until something clicks. Your persistence communicates how much your well-being matters—and that message deserves to be heard.
