Lesson Overview

9.25 – When You Have to Stay Alert All the Time: Living in constant alert mode drains your body like a battery that never recharges. You may scan every sound, door, or face, preparing for harm that doesn’t come. That hyper-awareness is learned protection, but it becomes heavy over time. The challenge is teaching your body to trust downtime. Start with short moments of controlled calm—deep breathing, focusing on gentle details like temperature or texture. Slowly extend those breaks, proving to your brain that nothing bad happens when you relax. Surround yourself with people or spaces that reinforce peace, not tension. Journaling your safety wins helps your mind track progress. Over time, relaxation stops feeling dangerous and starts feeling deserved. You can be alert when needed without living in fear. Balance, not constant readiness, is true safety.
