Lesson Overview

1.21 – Talking to Someone Who Doesn’t Understand Mental Health: Not everyone gets it when you talk about anxiety or depression. Some people minimize your feelings or say “just get over it.” That hurts, but it’s often because they lack knowledge, not empathy. Explaining mental health to someone starts with patience and boundaries. Use simple language like, “It’s like my brain won’t stop worrying” or “It’s hard to feel joy right now.” Share what helps you instead of defending your pain. If they still don’t understand, protect your energy and seek support elsewhere. You don’t need everyone to believe you—just the right ones to stand with you. Education spreads understanding, but your peace matters most.
