8.20 – Cultural and Family Rules About Grieving: Every family and culture has its own way of handling loss—some encourage open tears, others demand silence and strength. If your feelings don’t fit those traditions, it can make you feel guilty or misunderstood. Maybe you were told not to cry, or maybe everyone expects constant mourning. Neither extreme captures the full truth of healing. Grief isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s okay to follow rituals that bring comfort while also finding personal ways to express what’s inside. If your community’s customs feel restrictive, you can still honor your loved one privately in a way that feels authentic. Over time, blending old traditions with personal meaning can bring peace. True remembrance happens not through rules but through honesty, love, and respect for both your culture and your heart’s natural rhythm of healing.
