22.08 – Understanding Code-Switching and Why You Do It: Code-switching happens when you change how you talk, act, or present yourself depending on who’s around. Maybe you sound one way with friends and another at school or work. It’s a natural skill that many develop to feel accepted or stay safe in different spaces. But constantly switching can be exhausting because it asks you to filter parts of your real self. Understanding when and why you code-switch helps you decide which changes protect you and which hide you unnecessarily. Authenticity doesn’t mean refusing to adapt—it means choosing how to adapt on your terms. The more you know your values, the easier it becomes to balance comfort with honesty. Over time, you’ll notice that people respect genuine energy more than perfection. Code-switching may be a strategy, but your identity remains constant underneath every version of your voice.
