Lesson Overview

9.03 – When Your Neighborhood Feels Like a Warzone: Living where violence happens often can make even ordinary moments feel dangerous. You might plan every move—when to walk home, who to trust, or where to sit—based on staying alive, not just living. That constant tension can steal joy and make your world feel smaller each day. Your body may always be scanning for threats, even during quiet times, because it’s been trained to survive. The first step toward healing is understanding that these reactions are not “crazy”—they’re learned protection. Finding safe zones, supportive people, and peaceful spaces begins to remind your body what safety feels like. You can also learn calming habits that signal your brain to lower its guard slowly. With time and support, you can build an inner sense of stability that no environment can fully take away. Safety can start inside before it grows around you.
