Lesson Overview

9.30 – What If You See Someone Else Get Hurt?: Witnessing violence can haunt you as if it happened to you. Your mind may replay it, trying to understand or prevent it, but that keeps your stress high. You may feel guilt for not intervening or confusion about how to react next time. Remember, shock is normal. Talking to a counselor or teacher helps separate what you saw from what you can control. Supporting the person hurt, if safe to do so, can restore your sense of agency. Journaling or quiet reflection also releases stored tension. Healing means learning that empathy doesn’t require carrying someone else’s trauma. You can care deeply and still prioritize your mental safety. Each conversation or reflection helps your brain file the event as past, not present, freeing your energy for what lies ahead.
