Lesson Overview

9.39 – The Role of Hyper-Independence After Violence: After being hurt, you might rely only on yourself because trust feels unsafe. That self-reliance can look strong but sometimes hides deep exhaustion. Hyper-independence keeps you from receiving help that could lighten your load. True strength includes allowing support when needed. Notice when you reject help out of fear, not preference. Building balanced independence means choosing interdependence—connection without losing control. Trust grows slowly through small, consistent experiences of safety. Each time you let someone help without harm, your nervous system learns partnership isn’t danger. Healing isn’t doing everything alone; it’s knowing you could, but you don’t have to. Accepting care doesn’t make you weak—it means you’ve survived long enough to finally rest.
