2.05 – How to Interrupt a Panic Attack in Class: Panic can strike anywhere, even in the middle of school. Your heart races, your chest tightens, and your thoughts scream that something terrible will happen. Knowing how to interrupt the cycle gives back control. First, remind yourself that panic cannot kill you—it is the body’s alarm gone off too loud. Focus on grounding through senses: feel the chair, see colors, count breaths. Slow exhale is more powerful than inhale; it tells your body the danger is false. Naming five things around you can pull your brain out of the storm. Excuse yourself quietly if needed and find a calm spot to breathe. Splash cold water or hold an object to refocus. Panic passes like a wave; fighting it makes it stronger, riding it makes it shorter. Telling a teacher or counselor afterward helps reduce future fear. Practicing grounding daily trains your body to believe safety signals faster. Each panic you survive proves you can handle the next one better. You are stronger than the adrenaline that rushes through you.
