Lesson Overview

26.23 – Navigating Faith and Queerness: Many queer teens struggle to reconcile their faith with their identity, especially when religious teachings are used to condemn rather than uplift. Faith, however, is personal—it can grow and adapt without losing its essence. Explore interpretations and communities that embrace love over judgment. Countless people of faith are LGBTQ+ and live in harmony with both. Spirituality should heal, not harm, and questioning doctrine is a sign of depth, not rebellion. You can believe in higher power and still honor your truth. Finding affirming spaces—progressive churches, online groups, or inclusive mentors—can restore peace. When others weaponize religion, remember that kindness and authenticity are closer to the heart of any faith than exclusion. Real belief strengthens when it learns empathy. You do not have to choose between who you love and what you believe; you can embody both fully.
