16.18 – When You Feel Too Much All at Once: Sometimes emotions hit like a flood, and it feels impossible to tell one from another. When that happens, your brain becomes overwhelmed, like trying to watch too many videos at once. The best first step is to slow down the input—stop scrolling, step away from noise, and give yourself permission to pause. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and name just one thing you feel most strongly. Even if it’s “confused,” that’s enough to begin. Sorting one feeling at a time helps your mind organize the chaos. Sensory grounding, like holding something textured or smelling something calming, reconnects you to the present moment. Remember that feeling too much means your system cares deeply—it’s sensitivity, not weakness. Once the wave passes, you can reflect on what caused the overload. Over time, your emotional bandwidth grows, allowing you to experience big feelings without drowning in them. Learning to manage this overload builds emotional flexibility and resilience, turning chaos into understanding.
