Lesson Overview

6.04 – Coping with Divorce or Separation: When parents split, it can shake the ground under your feet. You might feel caught between love and loyalty, unsure where you belong. Changes in schedule, house, or rules can make you feel like nothing is stable anymore. Remind yourself that the breakup is not your fault, no matter what words get thrown around. Both parents’ emotions can spill over, but their choices aren’t your burden to carry. Having routines—like consistent schoolwork times or personal rituals—can bring structure when life feels messy. Talking to trusted adults or journaling helps sort feelings that twist together. You may even feel relief mixed with sadness, and that’s normal. Learning to communicate calmly with each parent prevents you from being the messenger. Over time, new stability can form, and you’ll discover your voice in both worlds. Healing after separation takes patience, but love for yourself is the first step to peace.
