Lesson Overview

25.29 – Coping With Nightmares and Flashbacks: Nightmares and flashbacks are your mind’s way of replaying trauma to try to make sense of it. They feel real because your body relives sensations it couldn’t process before. Calming begins with grounding—touching something solid, focusing on breathing, naming where you are. Afterward, remind yourself that the danger is not happening now. Journaling or drawing can help unload what the dream showed without re-entering the fear. Talk about patterns with a therapist who understands trauma responses. Rest becomes safer when your brain learns it no longer needs to stay on guard. Over time, restful sleep replaces restless survival. Your nights, like your days, can belong to peace again.
