25.33 – Dealing With Teachers or Counselors Who Don’t Understand: Sometimes the adults meant to help misinterpret trauma responses as disrespect or drama. It’s painful when authority figures minimize what you’re feeling. You can’t control their understanding, but you can control your clarity. Use calm, brief statements like, “I’m struggling with something serious and need support, not punishment.” Seek allies in staff who listen without judgment. Document conversations if needed to protect your voice. Each time you advocate for yourself, you prove your resilience and maturity. Their misunderstanding doesn’t erase your truth. Patience mixed with persistence can eventually shift perception, showing that strength and softness can coexist in recovery.
