7.37 – Coping With Being Misgendered or Misnamed: Being called by the wrong name or pronouns can sting deeply because identity is tied to recognition. It can feel like your truth is invisible. Remember that other people’s confusion doesn’t undo your reality. Correcting them calmly can educate without exhausting you. Choose when it’s worth engaging and when it’s safer to step back. Support from friends who use your correct name can make all the difference. Building resilience helps protect your self-esteem from careless mistakes or deliberate disrespect. Affirming yourself daily reminds you that your identity is valid, even when others get it wrong. You deserve to exist fully, without explanation or apology. Over time, those who respect you will make the effort—and those who don’t will lose the privilege of your presence.
